The Liberty Drive

Dear Livingston Community,
I am pleased to share that all elementary schools in our district will participate in this year’s
Liberty Drive, a month-long initiative running throughout October that supports local families
while reinforcing students’ understanding of unity, civic responsibility, and themes connected to
the American Revolution.
Students are invited to donate money/gift cards, nonperishable food items, and/or gently used
clothing to benefit Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors (monetary and food donations) and
Goodwill of NJ/NY (clothing donations), learning that, just as colonists once came together to
support the Continental Army, communities grow stronger when people support one another.
Throughout the drive, students will engage in brief, grade-appropriate lessons connected to
social studies, track class progress visually, earn incentives such as extra recess or a special
read-aloud, and conclude with a schoolwide celebration recognizing participation and collective
impact.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students build empathy, responsibility,
and a strong sense of community; please reach out with any questions.
Sincerely,
Thomas Montesion
